Daisy, Daisy!

When you think of a daisy,  you think of a small white round flower with a round yellow center, right?

white-daisy-wallpaper-colors-34692080-1440-900

Well, here's some fun facts about daisies...

  • A single daisy flower is actually made up of two separate flowers. The center petals are one flower surrounded by the “rays” of another flower.

  • Daisies grow all year round.

  • Daisy leaves are edible. Some people add them to their salads.

  • The Old English word meant “day’s eye” because daisy flowers only opened during the daytime.

“Daisy” also became a slang word in the early 1800s...

  • It meant the best or most marvelous. Kind of similar to saying that something is the cream of the crop.

  • Innocence, especially with white daisies with yellow or pale centers.

  • Purity – also shown by daisies that are as white as possible.

  • New beginnings, which is why they are often found in bouquets for new mothers or as gifts for children.

  • True love – because each daisy flower is really two flowers blended together in harmony.

  • That the sender can keep a secret. Keeping a secret is one way a person can exhibit that they truly love another.

I totally get why daisies are the friendliest flowers!

I saw some wild daisies on the side of the road when I was riding my bike last week, so they were the first flower to come to mind when I was making my card. I love this quote from the movie You've Got Mail!

Daisy sentiment 4x6

I made a .png digital file to share. Just right-click on the sentiment below and save to your computer to print on card stock!

Daisy Sentiment

I typed the quote in Photoshop Elements using the Bakery font and printed on Club Scrap® card stock. I stamped the background using the JFF Rubber Stamps cluster of stalks stamp image using Memento Bamboo (darker green) and New Sprout (lighter green) inks. I stamped the JFF Rubber Stamps cone daisies stamp and arranged them over the stalks with my Stamp-a-ma-jig. I stamped the cone daisies again on specialty Spectrum Noir card stock in Memento Cocoa ink and colored them with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. I fussy cut them out and adhered over the stamped background images, so that the cute scribbly stems would show. It took a while, but I find fussy cutting relaxing!

Art Makes Everything Awesome

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love fall. The weather is crisp and clean, even the dog gets frisky! Fall always signals "back to school". I loved buying school supplies and getting organized. One of my favorite quotes about fall is from the movie You've Got Mail,"  Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address." Ahhhh, newly sharpened pencils...I love that smell too. I love the old pencil sharpeners that were screwed into the side of the teacher's desk. They were the BEST kind! 4396481667_6201a28324

BUT, the best part of starting school, was art class! Anybody remember these?

If you had these on the first day of school, you were the coolest! It even had a shapener in the back! I couldn't wait to try them out and mom set up a place for us on the dining table. I always remember my mom saying, " You can color things any color you want when you use your imagination." This was probably after I corrected my baby sister for coloring a tree blue or something. Things just clicked! I wanted to use every color in the box, My favorite colors were Cornflower and Burnt Sienna, I think I just like the way they sounded. I couldn't wait to bring them to school and whip them out in art class. The best part about "art" was that we could talk to our neighbor while we were creating. I always walked out of there happier and couldn't wait to come back the next day to start all over again!

This card makes me happy.

Word art stamped with Distress Oxide ink in Black Soot.[/caption]

That was a lot of fussy cuttin', but I love how it turned out!

Frame of Mine

This month's Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge Blog Hop was inspired by the July NBUS Challenge on the Club Scrap chat forum. The challenge is to make pages, cards, or other projects featuring a “frame” (or frames) designed using rubber stamps or stencils. I took a few creative liberties with this challenge...and made them frames of mine!

Card #1 CAS (Clean and Simple)

No layers, just CAS! I used Club Scrap® 's Vintage Botany dandelion overlay stencil paired with the "wish" sentiment from the Jumbo Unmounted stamp images from the same kit. Then, I went waaaaaaay back and used the stitching stencil from the 2012 Navajo kit to create the frame. I used different colors of Gansai Tambi watercolors for the colorful splatters. IMG_7351E

Card #2 Shadow Box Card

I absolutely LOVE this fun card! I pulled out my Club Scrap®  Paradise stamp images (and I even had some scraps of the card stock left) to create this fun shadow box card! (these Paradise kit items are 50% off through today!)

IMG_7333E

The stamp images just beg to be colored and that is exactly what I did. I colored them with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and fussy cut them out to create the tropical clusters.

The 3D effect on this card is so intriguing! You automatically want to turn it upside down and look inside!

Card #3 Four Flap Card

Four Flap Card from Club Scrap on Vimeo.

You gotta watch the video, this card is such a fun card to decorate! I used card stock and stamp images from Club Scrap® 's 2009 Artifacts kit.

Unfold the four flaps and voila, a hidden panel to add a note or decorate any way you like!

I added a little flair with Versamark ink, copper foil embossing powder and some gem eyes for sparkle.

I fussy cut the frog image and added a mini action wobble! I love playing with those things!
