How About a Pizza Pie?

Trattoria Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap® Trattoria Blog Hop! If you started on the Club Scrap blog, then you know this is the last blog hop for the Club Scrap Artist Team. I have been a member of Club Scrap® for many years and being a member of the Artist Team was just the icing on the cake for me. This has been such an awesome experience and I am so honored that I was a part of it! Molte grazie Club Scrap® !

This month's kit is the ultimate kit for foodies. After seeing these stamp images, I had to go with a pizza theme for my project!

[caption id="attachment_12231" align="alignnone" width="600"]1117jumbsq Trattoria Jumbo Unmounted Stamp Set[/caption]

I found this printable pie box template and my creative juices started flowing...or maybe I was just hungry!

How about a pizza pie?

[caption id="attachment_12222" align="alignnone" width="4217"]002E Card stock and wooden die cut from the Trattoria Deluxe kit. [/caption]

Of course I had to fill the box with something!

003E

I enlarged the pie box template to fit on a 12x12 sheet of card stock and designed some pizza slice shaped cards to fit inside. I made a set of four cards, but there is plenty room for more!

010E

Card #1

014E

I stamped the plain side of the green printed card stock with images from the Jumbo Unmounted stamps. I stamped a collage of cheese wedges with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink and stamped an extra wedge onto cream plain card stock. I fussy cut the tiny image, punched holes with a piercing tool for effect and added it to the card front with a foam square. The sentiment and edges are stamped and inked using Club Scrap Earth ink.

Card #2

[caption id="attachment_12226" align="alignnone" width="3456"]015E Trattoria Grazie Stencil, jumbo fork charm and mini bows.[/caption]

This little googly eyed chef made an appearance on a card I made a few weeks ago. I liked him so much I had to make another one! Who would argue with an Italian chef holding a fork?!

Card #3

016E

Yeah, I know the print is upside down...wanna pizza me? This card features the pizza stamp image from the Jumbo Unmounted set and a sentiment from the Greeting Unmounted set. I colored the stamped image with colored pencils and cut the heart out with a craft knife (that sounds like a Mafia crime scene!). I added a piece of dark brown card stock to the back and adhered with foam tape.

Card #4

017E

This one was fun! I selectively inked the fork portion of the tri-panel collage stamp with a Perfect Medium pen, stamped on the edge of the card stock and heat embossed with silver embossing powder. I found some yellow waxed linen thread and stitched some "spaghetti noodles".  That Jumbo Unmounted sentiment cracks me up!

Where the Wild Things Are

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge Blog Hop! Today I’m utilizing elements from some of Club Scrap®'s digital kits to create a few “mash up” scrapbook layouts of our Thanksgiving adventure at Red Dirt!

I loved going to Red Dirt when I was growing up. I have such fond memories of those Sunday afternoons with a bucket of Popeyes chicken, all the fixings and an ice cold coke. We'd run around the hills like heathens while mom and dad napped on a blanket at the picnic site. I always like to have a "fun" day with my nieces and nephews when they come for the holidays.  This year, I decided to turn them loose at Red Dirt. The weather was gorgeous and chilly enough for a sweatshirt. I packed hotdogs, ingredients for s'mores and hot chocolate to cook over the campfire. No toys, no electronics...except for the car ride!

[wpvideo ocIiK0kL]

We started out at the Kisatchie Bayou Complex. The creek was the perfect place to explore!

[caption id="attachment_12176" align="alignnone" width="864"]Red-Dirt-1 Club Scrap® Adirondacks, Oopsie Daisy, National Parks and Trees digital kit elements. Layout sketch from the London Calling monthly layout card.[/caption]

They all "oooohed" and "ahhhhed" over the cliff looking down into the creek and when we climbed down they all thought it was so beautiful. Haylan and Kyle found a rope swing hanging from a tree on the bank. They ended up with damp shoes, but I was impressed with their rope swinging skills! That water was cold!

Millie entertained herself drawing in the sand with Ellie. They drew a hopscotch court but spent most of the time looking for rocks to use as markers.

Jake took these two crazies on an adventure that their moms probably wouldn't approve of, but that's what makes it fun!

We hiked the Longleaf Vista Nature Trail and they hung out on the butte for a while admiring the sunset. Kyle found a bunch of half burned emergency candles and stuffed them in his pockets. I balked when he wanted to bring them with us, but we actually used them later when the sun went down!

175

That's a good lookin' crew!

169

Jake said we had to have one with Aunt Wendy too!

173

These are last three pics on my camera before I hyperextended my knee. I climbed down the side of the butte to snap these and stepped in a hole. Thankfully I had my walking sticks. If only I had used them. Yay me...

The kids ran back to the campsite to tell Chris what happened while Jake helped me limp back. Deep down they are really worried about me.

[wpvideo w9AmEOTW]

Uncle Chris let Kyle chop firewood with a machete and start the fire while Aunt Wendy cringed a little bit. You gotta learn sometime, right?

204E

The kids had a blast burning their marshmallows for s'mores and drinking hot cocoa by the fire.

194E201E206BW

They had the full nature experience! We even had a doe run across the road in front of us when we were leaving the park! Lots of screaming ensued with excited comments of seeing eyes in the woods, until they all passed out in the back seat. Oh, and I made the mistake of telling Kyle a ghost story on the way home and scared him, even though he begged me to tell it. Well, he begged me! I sure do love those kiddos!

This month’s challenge is to utilize items from at least three past Club Scrap® collections. The kits I used today will be listed in the supplies list below. If you happened to miss out on some of Club Scrap’s paper kits, you should really check out all the corresponding digital kits! All you need is your computer and a software program that works with layers, JPG and PNG file types. Club Scrap®  recommends Adobe’s Photoshop Elements (tutorials are geared to this program) and GIMP (a free alternative program). Click here for a quick video tutorial on using GIMP with Club Scrap’s QDDLs. I won’t lie to you, there is a bit of a learning curve when using digital scrapbooking kits. But once you’ve mastered the basics, learning new techniques is easy AND you can print your projects and use the kit elements over and over. If you can do it with paper, you can do it with these digital scrapbooking kits! Click here to receive a free mini digital kit download and try it out for yourself! Be sure to check out what the rest of the artist team has created by beginning the hop on the Club Scrap blog!

Behind Every Favorite Song is an Untold Story

Music is a universal feature of the human experience. Every human culture has music. We are moved by it. We are inspired by it. We feel connected to it. It reflects something profound about who we are and our experience of the world. The power of an old song can trigger vivid memories that seem to transport us back in time and space. Every one of my favorite songs has a story to go with it. Some of them I might share and some I'd like to keep to myself *WINK*!

Music has been a huge part of my life. My mom is one of nine children and family functions were always filled with music. Someone would play guitar or ukulele and everyone would sit in Grandma's living room and sing along. The repertoire consisted of old songs that Grandma sang as a little girl during the Depression, folk songs, old hymns, the Beatles, Gene Autry, Hank Williams...you name it, they could play it and sing it! My paternal grandparents had a piano at their house. My Papaw taught me to play Chopstix and Heart and Soul. I begged to take piano lessons and took them until I started high school. I can still read music and play when I visit at mom and dad's. My husband gave me a ukulele for Christmas about five years ago and I taught myself to play. I can entertain myself for hours, until I'm hoarse and my fingers are sore!

Today's post is part of the Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge Blog Hop. The challenge this month is to visit the Club Scrap YouTube channel, choose a video tutorial with a technique that inspires us, then make pages, cards or other projects inspired by that video. I chose the Piano Hinge Book. I have a guitar tabs app on my phone, but having a collection of favorite songs in a handmade book is priceless. This way I can make notes (or write down a story) in my own handwriting. That will be a lost art one day!

[caption id="attachment_11577" align="alignnone" width="3111"]012E Club Scrap® Piano Hinge Book, All that Jazz card stock and border strip. Ribbon and gems from my personal stash.[/caption]

I copied and pasted my favorite music in a Photoshop Elements document and printed on Club Scrap® card stock. This was a song my Grandma would sing when she played guitar. I loved her voice.

My Blue Heaven

Maybe I won't need reading glasses to see this in the firelight!

The piano hinge binding is so intriguing. I love how the pages mesh together like cogs on a wheel!

Today's Special...WATERCOLOR!

It's fall ya'll! Well, almost...technically, the first day of fall is September 22 according to the Farmer's Almanac, but it's close enough for me! I'm ready for crisp fall days when I can turn off the A/C, open all the doors and windows, light a fire pit on the patio with no mosquitoes and have a big pot of something delicious cooking on the stove! We planted a fall garden and I can't wait for some garden fresh vegetable soup and cornbread...and apple pie for dessert!

I loved my grandparents' stories about growing up during The Depression and what it was like to live on a farm. My Memaw wrote a blog called The Ridges of Lee County for a few years before she died. Her stories are short and sweet, but she sure could paint a picture with just a few words. I scrolled through her blog and found this post about harvesting cotton, even the kids had to work! I can just see this little Virginia with a cotton sack over her shoulder!

Virginia little girl

Her story inspired me to create this art journal layout...it's about as "Americana" as it gets.

[caption id="attachment_10761" align="alignnone" width="4576"]CS Artist Team Challenge Watercolor Art Journal 033E All stamp and stencil images from Club Scrap® . Available supplies will be listed at the end of this post.[/caption]

I found this cute little vintage photo and created the rest of the layout around him.

CS Artist Team Challenge Watercolor Art Journal 033E1

He kind of looks like this picture of my Papaw when he was a little boy!

Papaw little boy

I used some watercolor distressing techniques for a "vintage" look. I sponged the background with Distress Inks and blended with water. Here I colored my stamp with watercolor pencils and misted with water before I stamped for a faded effect. I purposely didn't line up the border stamp image, I like the imperfection!

CS Artist Team Challenge Watercolor Art Journal 046E2

I used the new layering stencil from Club Scrap® 's Orchard kit to create my title. I applied Distress Inks so that I could splatter with water droplets and remove some of the ink for an aged effect. I also used a paintbrush and flicked some spatters of Black Soot Distress Ink  mixed with water over the background. I did the same with some white gesso.

I just love this little scene!
