On the 12th Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me…

“The magi, as you know, were wise men--wonderfully wise men--who brought gifts to the Babe in the manger. They invented the art of giving Christmas presents."

― O. Henry, The Gift of the Magi

The Magi from the East. What a strange story, but one that has been accepted by Christianity for centuries. Three strangers from a foreign country, possibly astrologers and interpreters of omens, following a star because they all had the same dream. They bring expensive gifts, bow before a child, proclaim him the son of God and thumb their nose at King Herod by not reporting to him where Jesus was. It's fascinating!

The Bible isn't exactly a timetable and the story is vague and shrouded in mystery. People have just filled in all those blanks since Epiphany became a church feast in the second century, making it one of the oldest of Christian celebrations. The Epiphany is considered the day that the Magi finally made it to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus. Epiphany occurs on January 6, 12 days after Christmas Day, and at the tail end of the legendary 12 days of Christmas. Epiphany is also often referred to as Three Kings’ Day, Twelfth Night, or the Feast of the Epiphany. I'm from Louisiana, so Epiphany officially marks the beginning of the Mardi Gras season! ♫On the 12th Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me♫…KING CAKE!

Today starts the new monthly challenge at JFF Rubber Stamps and this month the challenge is hosted by design team member Jen Armstrong.

Jen chose a blue and silver color theme this month and since I'm still in holiday mode I'm celebrating the 12 days of Christmas with the Three Wise Men on Camels!

JFF Stamps Water Globe with wood base and Three Wise Men stamp images. Club Scrap card stock. (Supplies used will be listed at the end of this post)

This is such a great silhouette stamp and it fit perfectly inside the Water globe Wood base stamp image! I made it into a shaker card with silver and blue tinsel glitter and added some moon and stars sequin shapes. The water themed dark gray background paper had a silver bubbles and ripples pattern, just right for my design!

♫ What are you Doing New Year's Eve?♫

https://youtu.be/aSq1cez_flQ

I plan to relax this New Year's Eve. We don't have plans and the the way the holiday falls this year we get FOUR days off in a row! I'm so excited! The Christmas season was super busy, so I'm looking forward to some down time. The weather is predicted to be cold and rainy, so I'm thinking we'll cook some gumbo and get cozy to ring in 2019!

This is my last Just For Fun Rubber Stamps post for 2018!

My card features the JFF Skyline Silhouette stamp image against Club Scrap's Firecracker card stock. What a perfect New Year's Eve sky! (The supplies used in this project are listed at the end of this post)

The skyline image is stamped with black Staz On ink. After it was dry, I added some highlights on the buildings with a white Dylusions paint pen (OMG if you don't have one, you've got to try it!) and a little sparkle with Diamond Stickles on the firework streaks. The foil chipboard stickers are the Thickers Tinsel font in metallic cherry.

There's still time to join our monthly challenge!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!

Wise words from my youngest son on his 21st birthday last week...

Chris (Dad) : So Jake, what have you learned in your 21 years on earth?
Jake: (Without missing a beat)
1. Listen more and talk less.
2. You can learn something from everyone, no matter how old they are, even children.
3. Greet everyone with an open heart.
4. Family is the most important thing. Spend time with the people you love.
That’s my boy. ❤️

I did not decorate for Christmas this year. *GASP!* I can think of a thousand excuses for why not, but the truth is I just didn't want to. The decorations are in the attic, we have all been super busy this holiday and I'm just plain tired. I'm not being a "grinch". I'm choosing to focus on the important things, spending quality time with my family (and getting messy in my craft room). THAT'S what make me happy!

I'm excited to share that I'm on a brand new design team created by Monica Taylor at Taylormadecards4u. She recently started creating digital images and kits for her Etsy shop and needed help sharing projects and inspiration for her items. Her vintage/retro images appeal to my eclectic side! Her Valentine card designs, vintage order forms and journal cards (and those Santa images!) bring back some fun memories. They remind me of the bits of ephemera I would find at my grandparents' house tucked away in dresser drawers, albums and books. She will be releasing new kits and images each month, so be sure to check out her shop.

So, without further ado, here's my design team post featuring elements from the Santa Passport kit!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP9HLhMVgRs&w=560&h=315]

I used a card formula by Club Scrap to create a booklet card. Then I printed the Santa Passport digital images on white card stock and trimmed to use as decorative elements. It was such an easy project to create with materials I already had on hand. (Links to supplies used at the end of this post)

For more inspiration check out Monica's posts here and here introducing the new design team on her blog. I'll be back again January 1 for projects with the new monthly release!

Thanks so much for stopping by and Merry Christmas!
