Where The Wild Things Are!

18619946_10211303004065752_2397076205119105128_n

About a month ago, I wrote this post Yes, I Ride Like a Girl!  about the "Adventures of Wendy and Sheri". It's been 8 weeks and we're still riding and hiking! We've been documenting our rides and our "Monday Fun Days" with photos and videos so that I could put them in albums for each of us. We're making history and it needs to be remembered!

We've had a blast while getting fit, we've biked, hiked, and gotten a lot of fresh air. AND we've each had an accident...so I'd say we're seasoned riders!

[gallery ids="7329,7330,7331" type="rectangular"]

I took that fall like a champ! Though it took almost three weeks for the bruises to heal...

[gallery ids="7313,7312" type="rectangular"]

Bayou Chicot's trails were a little more advanced than we were ready for! The running joke of the day was "Siri's" mispronunciations of the French/Indian names on the GPS. Siri called Bayou Chicot  "Bye-o Ki-cot"! So funny to these Louisiana girls!

[wpvideo xX1syrln]

Sheri is a lot more adventurous than I am. She's a bit of a daredevil at times. There's not a whole lot she won't try!

IMG_0270

We're good riding buddies, we push each other and that keeps us going. We're getting stronger every week, and we're not tired of each other yet! (Sheri, are you laughing?!) We've come so far and I am so PROUD of us!

I knew when I #gotmykit that the Club Scrap®  Adirondacks kit was PERFECT for documenting our adventures!

Don't you love this decorative spine?

Adirondack Blog Hop Projects 008E

I used almost every sheet of paper in my Adirondacks kit!

Adirondack Blog Hop Projects 017E

There's so much room inside! There are 26 pages if you include the 4x6 photo mattes that I attached to the spines. Good thing, because I have a TON of photos that need to go in there!

[gallery ids="7286,7287,7288" type="rectangular"]

I decorated the front of my album with card stock and stamp images from the Adirondacks kit and some Tim Holtz grunge paper die cuts from waaaaaaay back. I totally forgot that I had them! I distressed them with Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo distress inks. I found the Indian Head Nickel button and some little metal embellishments that looked like arrowheads in my stash. I used some of the waxed thread from the kit to put it all together.

Adirondack Blog Hop Projects 010E

I still had a few scraps left, so I made a card too. This kit is a great kit for masculine themed projects...like Father's Day! The hunters in my family will love this!

Adirondack Blog Hop Projects 021E

It's a slider card!

[wpvideo 97zj28OY]

I used Lawn Fawn's slider dies and I usually use a nickel as a weight, but it was too big for the duck stamp image. I hated to waste the little deer head charms that came with the kit, but they were the perfect size and weight when I glued two of them together with Club Scrap bookbinding glue!

img_2611-copy1

I still have plenty of tags left to add to my album and lots of pages to fill!

Arts n' Crafts

If you ask my nieces (and sometimes nephews) what they want to do at Aunt Wendy's they will say, "Arts n' crafts!" What kid, old or young, doesn't like to get creative?! One of the things that I love about budding little artists is their artistic freedom. The sky can be purple, the trees can be fuchsia, and the grass can be cornflower blue (I always loved that color in my box of Crayola crayons!). It's the adults in their life who form their opinions for them and tell them that it can't be so. If you look at a self portrait drawn by a child, drawing themselves larger than their parents is a sign of good self-esteem. My kids always drew themselves with a really large head! (Laughing!) They were VERY confident little boys!

My 6 year old niece Beau is a budding little artist with her own sense of style.

She drew this self prthrit "real quick" for me tonight when I said I loved the pic above!

AND she can sing too! HA!HA!HA! Notice she has her art supplies with her. That's my girl!

Don't Fuss Call Gus!

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Artist Team Challenge Blog Hop! Today I'm using elements from some of Club Scrap's digital kits to create a few "mash up" scrapbook layouts of my sweet nephew Gus' first birthday party!

[caption id="attachment_6904" align="alignnone" width="864"]Gus'-First-Birthday-LO1-12x12RZ Digital kits: Matrix 2008 background "papers", Let Me Count the ways tag, Matrix tag, Dungarees and Matrix fibers. Old Computer, Bringshoot and Dungarees stitched title fonts.[/caption]

A year goes by fast, it feels like we were just waiting for baby Gus to get here. He had a fun party with grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, friends and lots of presents!

[caption id="attachment_6917" align="alignnone" width="864"]Gus'-First-Birthday-LO2-12x12RZ Digital kits: Dungarees and Matrix backgrounds. Dungarees stitched title font. Fibers from Dungarees, Take Wing and Celebrate. Matrix tag. Jubilee balloons. Presents created in Photoshop Elements using Matrix backgrounds.[/caption]

While Gus opened gifts, his cousins and friends had fun on the giant slide.

Ellie Belle took over the photography and captured some great shots! The boys wanted to make a slo-mo video and Ellie obliged...

[wpvideo QwEHS9BJ]

Her pictures turned out so good and she's such a good "big cuz" to all the little cousins!

We had a happy day celebrating sweet Gus!

This month's challenge is a "Mash Up" of items from at least two past Club Scrap® collections. I used items from six different Club Scrap Digital kits, a Quick Drop Digital Layout (QDDL) and ALSB (Assembly Line Scrapbooking) instructions from the current month's kit Adirondacks. If you happened to miss out on some of Club Scrap's paper kits, you should really check out all the corresponding digital kits! All you need is your computer and a software program that works with layers, JPG and PNG file types. Club Scrap recommends Adobe's Photoshop Elements (tutorials are geared to this program) and GIMP (a free alternative program). Click here for a quick video tutorial on using GIMP with Club Scrap's QDDLs. I won't lie to you, there is a bit of a learning curve when using digital scrapbooking kits. But once you've mastered the basics, learning new techniques is easy AND you can print your projects and use the kit elements over and over. If you can do it with paper, you can do it with these digital scrapbooking kits! Click here to receive a free mini digital kit download and try it out for yourself!

Be sure to check out what the rest of the artist team has created by beginning the hop on the Club Scrap blog!

Beautiful Louisiana

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF4MuN6BAVw]

I was born and raised in Louisiana. Louisiana is my home. My family is here, my memories are here, my family's history is here. There is such a rich heritage and mix of cultures, French, Spanish, French-Canadian, American and African. We have the BEST food, music, customs and we know how to "pass a good time"!  I just love my cousin Emily's pen and ink drawing of Louisiana. It's a whimsical map featuring famous landmarks from around the state. She's so talented and I'm so glad I snagged a print for Mother's Day!

Emily's Whimsical Louisiana Map

When my son Jake was in junior high in 2011, his Louisiana history class was required to make a scrapbook of historical sites around Louisiana. They had to document Civil War battle sites, plantations, festivals, famous figures and builidings. We traveled all over the state taking pictures and visiting famous landmarks, festivals and museums. We worked hard on this year long project and really enjoyed putting it together. I won't bore you with photos of all 26 pages, but I am glad that we were able to document some of the famous monuments before they were removed!

[gallery ids="6744,6745,6746,6747" type="square"]

I'm up on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog today and I'm showcasing the JFF Rubber Stamps Gray Heron at Waters Edge stamp image. My themed card needed a Louisiana heron, so I chose colors inspired by the John James Audubon print.

[caption id="attachment_6740" align="alignnone" width="3167"]006E Club Scrap® card stock from the May 2017 Adirondacks kit.[/caption]

I wanted the image to be reversed, so I stamped the image on a piece of clear plastic and pressed my card stock on the wet ink to get the mirrored image.

Gray Heron Mirrored Stamp imageE

I used Rich Cocoa Memento ink and the result was pretty good! I die cut the image with an oval Spellbinders die and colored with Gansai Tambi watercolors. I finished the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink and added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle.

015E

I cut the sentiment with my Cricut using the Plantain Schoolbook and Billionaire fonts cartridges. I fussy cut the Louisiana state silhouette using a template I printed from a state map image.

009E

I ran the die cuts through my neglected Xyron machine, dusted with glitter and burnished well. I love the sparkle it adds!
