Shake One in the Hay and Spit on It!

It sounds gross, but it's not!

“Shake One in the Hay and Spit on It” is soda jerk lingo for a strawberry shake with raspberries on top. These guys had slang all their own for calling out orders. Soda fountains had handbooks of recipes they had to memorize, but hundreds of variations were created on the fly by the creative Soda Jerks. They had to put on a show to get that tip!

Today's post is part of the new Taylormadecards4u/Crafter's Castle Challenge collaboration featuring the Soda Fountain Shoppe

I thought I'd get a creative jump start for the new year with an art journal layout.

The kit can be printed on your home computer "as is" for fussy cutting or "print and cut" using a die cutting machine. You can also create some fantastic digital designs. I've shared details in the video on how I transformed the images using Photoshop Elements for a 3-dimensional effect. You can watch the video tutorial here or on my Youtube channel.

Here are a few close-ups showing all the detail I've added like distressing, shadowing, and embossing with metal!

The Taylormadecards4u Inspiration Team will host a video hop with the Crafter's Castle Design Team each month featuring the newest Taylormadecards4u digital kit. The featured kit will be the prize on the Crafter's Castle Challenge blog and if you link up to the challenge and use digital products from the TMC4u Shop, you get a second entry! Take advantage of this 20% discount code to the TMC4u Shop so that you can get that second entry to the Crafter's Castle challenge...type in Loyalty in the promo code box in the shopping cart!

Trick or Treat!

I'm not decorating for Halloween this year. My bathrooms are being remodeled and I will have a claustrophobic meltdown if I get out the Halloween decor. I did mix up a fun fall scent in my essential oil diffuser this morning though!

We haven't had "trick or treaters" in a long time, so I don't buy candy anymore. I would be the one to eat it anyway! I am going to make a few of these though...My nieces and nephews will love getting these in the mail!

I used some digital backgrounds from the Taylormadecards4u Halloween Passport kit and some of these fun vintage images from the Retro Halloween Images 2 to make my card.

Halloween - Retro set 2

I designed the card panel in Photoshop Elements and cut the pieces using my Silhouette Cameo 3. I like that I can mass produce cards this way. All I have to do is change out the backgrounds and the pop-up images.

Mounting the cut-out background on black card stock really makes the sentiment stand out. I dusted over the cut-out areas with Black Soot Distress Oxide ink and added some Xmas Red Stickles for a little Halloween gore effect. I found the skull and crossbones foam sticker in my stash.

I gave the cats some red gem eyes and added some Diamond Stickles for added sparkle.

These cards are so much fun to play with!

Pretty in Pink

I've been having flashbacks from the 80's. I'm 50 and I'm hitting puberty again!

https://youtu.be/qSqVVswa420

I saw the original "Top Gun" in 1986 when I spent the summer in Europe. I was visiting a friend in Germany and I saw it for the first time in German. I didn't understand a word, but I didn't care! 😜 1986 was a good year for cult classics. "Pretty in Pink" made it's debut in January of '86. The film's soundtrack was fabulous and OMD's "If You Leave" was an international hit. I loved Molly Ringwald's style in this movie and wanted to dress just like her! Of course these memories influenced my creativity when creating for this week's Pretty in Pink Cupcake Inspirations challenge.

I found a stock photo from the movie to use as my background. I edited it in Photoshop to create a sketchy black and white poster look and found a fun quote to go with it.

I printed everything on white card stock and trimmed. I added some pink and black matting and a little ink on the edges of the card stock for a some 80's vintage distressing. I also added some hot pink glitter glue on the boutonniere and her earring and a bit of black ribbon for interest.

I'll look for you in the gallery!

Everything's Coming Up Roses

Springtime is here! Easter is this weekend and Mother's Day is just around the corner. We have had lots of rain in Louisiana. April showers bring May flowers, right? Pecan trees like a long winters nap and are usually the last of the trees around here to produce spring buds. Well, the pecan trees are budding, so it's time to plant our spring garden. I'm ready for some home grown fresh vegetables! When we moved into our house 20 years ago, we planted some climbing roses in our front garden in memory of my grandfather - he always had a rose garden. My first rose of 2019 is blooming!

Taylormadecards4u just released My Mother's Garden and Mother's Roses digital kits. My Mother's Garden has some beautiful vintage backgrounds and cut aparts to decorate with.

Mother's Roses coordinates perfectly with the garden themed kit AND it contains layers for added interest and dimension!

I featured elements from both kits on a set of springtime/Mother's Day themed cards.

I printed the digital kits without resizing any elements and trimmed. I like working with a sketch and used instructions from one of the cards in Club Scrap's card making Idea Deck.

The decks are no longer available in printed form, but Club Scrap now offers two digital formats that include thirteen card making formulas each with cutting instructions. (All available supplies will be listed at the end of this post.)

Card 1. Layered Roses

The layered roses are a cinch to trim with detail scissors. I also like to use my Silhouette Cameo to cut elements for cards, but I fussy cut the layers this time. A little foam tape and they make a beautiful focal image!

Card 2. May 2019

I trimmed elements using the measurements on the Idea Deck card and layered onto the card base. I inked the edges of the panels with Club Scrap Earth ink and a finger dauber, added some green pearls and Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle on the flowers.

Card 3. Birdie Darling

I just love the vintage images on this card. The background panels are just beautiful and I love the mother and child cut apart on the upper left. I trimmed the sentiment from one of the tags. I adore that sweet term of endearment! Some green pearl gems were added for interest.

Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit the Taylormadecards4u blog for more Mother's Day inspiration from the design team!

BEE yourself!

Almost a year ago I posted about my husband's new hobby... beekeeping!

The weather is warming up and the bees are getting busy. We just finished the last of our honey from last summer and I'm ready for the next honey harvest. Stay tuned for more bee themed projects coming soon!

Today's post is part of the Taylormadecards4u new release for March and the theme is Vintage Garden.

I've been admiring some fabulous junk journal projects and thought I'd make another project using recycled items. This time I recycled a mini Pringle's can!

https://youtu.be/dP8QPp47nmM

I took some measurements and resized a few of the kit images in Photoshop Elements to fit my project. I printed all of the images on 8.5x11 white card stock and trimmed to size. The tags and labels were the perfect size to use as embellishments to decorate the can. I fussy cut some of the bees using Cutter Bee scissors and added them with foam tape. (A full list of available supplies used is listed at the end of this post.)

I used the 2 and 2.5 inch Elizabeth Craft Designs stitched circle dies to trim the lid decoration and the telescoping message inside!

This beautiful background print is perfect all by itself, I just added a little Stickles glitter glue to enhance the images.

Click HERE to check out what the rest of the Design Team has created and be sure to visit the Taylormadecards4u Etsy store for more vintage digital kits. New releases are scheduled monthly along with coordinating special addition kits like this Bug ATC kit!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to stay tuned for more bee themed projects coming soon!

I ♥ You Like...

A fat kid loves dessert!

The new Cupcake Inspirations challenge starts today and the theme is "Be Mine'!

The Paper Shelter is our sponsor and they are generously providing 3 digital images to our randomly chosen winner!

I used TPS's Yummy! digital image on my card. I usually shy away from the "Tall" or "Slim" sized cards, but this image needed the slim style. I designed the card in Photoshop Elements; resizing the image and adding a fun sentiment.

The font is Daisy's Delights. All of the capital O's have a tiny heart in the center!

Then, I gave myself a quick refresher course on how to use my Silhouette Cameo to print and cut...🙄

Since I have trouble with this card design, I looked through my trusty Club Scrap Idea Deck for a sketch to help me out and found this one.

Club Scrap ALCM Idea Deck Vol. 2 is no longer available, but see the supplies list below for links to the new digital downloads that include 13 cardmaking formulas each. Cutting and assembly instructions are included with the sketches.

I still had a few pieces of the Club Scrap Mumbai kit leftover and used those instead of cutting up whole sheets of card stock. You should see my stack of scraps, I can't throw them away!

I know this sounds like a long process, but it came together quickly. It took longer to color the image with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers than it took to make the card!
