Shine a Little Love

I started off Mother's Day weekend with an hour and a half power yoga class taught by my oldest son Christopher. This kid is a BEAST!

My legs are still sore this morning. He's a taskmaster, but he's whipping his parents into shape and we are loving it!

My husband started beekeeping this spring and it has become a family affair. Saturday afternoon, Chris and Christopher packed up to remove a bee swarm from a second story deck. I tagged along to take pictures. This swarm had been there about two weeks, but they had settled in!

Look at that perfect honeycomb! The queen was playing hard to get. She was hiding in the rafters near where the hammer is hanging in the photo.

Christopher says he has a new appreciation for anyone who works standing on a ladder and looking up all day!

Two hours and quite a few stings later, they finally got the queen. Once they moved her to the temporary hive, the rest of the bees followed. So fascinating!

They were covered in sweat and nectar but those are some happy faces. Mission accomplished!

I had a pretty lazy Mother's Day on Sunday. My youngest son Jake made brunch...french toast made with fresh bread from our restaurant topped with homemade blueberry sauce. It was delicious!

Later, I visited at my mom's and swam with the kids, while my guys cooked a fantastic meal of homemade hamburgers, tater tots and egg rolls. It was a Mother's Day fit for a queen. That's what I call shining a little love on my life!

I made time to get my hands dirty in my craft room too, because today starts the new Cupcake Inspirations color challenge!

CIC 446

Our sponsor for this challenge is STAMPlorations and they are offering a $20 gift certificate to our randomly chosen winner!

I made a 6x6 art journal page using stamps and card stock from Club Scrap® 's Cherry Blossom, Color Me Happy and Steamworks kits.

CIC 446 Pastels 013E

The lantern images were stamped in Club Scrap® sandstone ink for "no line coloring" with Prisma colored pencils and gamsol blending. To give them a glow, I rubbed some Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink on the center of each lantern . I used a gold gel pen for details and some diamond Stickles for sparkle.

Be sure to check out today's Cupcake Inspirations post featuring lots of inspiration from some of the STAMPlorations team as well as the Design Sweeties. Link up your creation for a chance to win!

  5. Oh.. so pretty! What a lovely journal page.. and I had no clue how bee keeping was done!! Next time I savour some sweetness I'll remind myself to thank the lovely people who got stung to get us this nectar. Have you seen Milks Gubo's - crafty Milka's blog..she's someone who spreads awareness on bees too. You had a lovely mother's day Wendy.. what else does one need?

  10. Quite the mother’s day activities! I admire the people that can work with bees. My fight-or-flight trigger would be working overtime the whole time. :)
