Double Trouble!

I love Disney movies. I don't have little ones anymore or I would have known that the new Disney remake of Dumbo was due to hit theaters over the weekend! I'm gonna need a box of tissues for this one!

https://youtu.be/7NiYVoqBt-8

Lo and behold, when I was making my card for today's Cupcake Inspiration challenge, I sifted through my monthly Club Scrap kit and found an awesome Walt Disney quote that was the perfect fit.

Club Scrap Aviary card stock and cut apart tags. Club Scrap Scandinavia stamp image. Tim Holtz Sizzix wood grain embossing folder. Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink.
Elizabeth Craft Designs stitched circle die was used to cut the window.

I used instructions from Jennifer McGuire's Surprise Window Cards video to create my card.

https://youtu.be/CuvLyJtI2Ks

The theme for the new Cupcake Inspirations challenge is Woodland Creatures and Club Scrap has the perfect stamp images (and they are on SALE!) (See the list at the end of this post for direct links to available supplies)

Club Scrap Scandinavia stamp image. Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink.

I stamped the Scandinavia collage image multiple times using my Tim Holtz stamping platform to create a background panel. I just love the oxidized effect of Distress Oxides inks when they air dry! I left the third inside panel blank for a sentiment later or to have room to write a note or message. I never know what mood will hit me when I want to send a card!

This week's Cupcake Inspiration challenge might get you in double trouble...just kidding, you might just win double the prizes! Our sponsor this week is STAMPlorations and they are offering a $20 gift code to our randomly chosen winner, AND we teamed up with the Double Trouble Challenge for a second way to enter your card featuring Woodland Critters.  Hop over to their blog to check out the guidelines before you whip up your project!

Thanks for stopping by and I'll be sure to look for you in the gallery!

Queen of Hearts

I am the mother of two fine sons and a pretty awesome husband.

We raised them to be good men. They are kind, loving, secure and confident, but not arrogant. They treat everyone with respect until they are given a reason not to! They are both men of integrity and they make their parents proud every day.

I have to admit that I am a spoiled wife and mother. The men in my family love to cook and I love to eat. Win! Win! I don't mind the clean up after either. This is my youngest son's creation for our family's restaurant...King Cake Cheesecake! It is our homemade cheesecake with a cinnamon roll crust drizzled in a glaze icing and dusted with colored sugar. Oh my YUM!

One of the things that I admire about all three of these crazy Bellino's is their adventurous spirit. This is their new venture...learning to fly!

https://youtu.be/2oIyjAN1JIY

They inspire me to come out of my shell and experience new things, but my hair is turning gray FAST! 😅

Today's post is part of the Southern Girls February 2019 Challenge "Girl Power".

Oddball Art is one of our sponsors for this challenge and I found the perfect image for my project. I chose the Queen for the Day Image No. 326, the foul-tempered monarch who is quick to give death sentences at the slightest offense and screeches "Off with their heads!" She is the polar opposite of me, however, I channel her now and then to keep my thrill seekers in line!

Oddball Art Queen for the Day Image layered on a background created using the Club Scrap Cobblestone stencil and card stock. Detailed supplies list at the end of this post.

I resized the digital images in Photoshop Elements, printed on Crafter's Companion Spectrum Noir Specialty paper and trimmed using my Silhouette Cameo. The images were colored with a combination of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers, Prismacolor pencils and Dylusions paint pens. I added a little sparkle with Yellow and Diamond colored Stickles. The background was created using Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink layered with the Club Scrap Cobblestone stencil and Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink applied with a sponge dauber.

Click HERE to check out what the rest of the design team has created and link up your project for a chance to win a prize from one of our sponsors, Krafter's Kart and Oddball Art.

I'll look for you in the gallery!

Spirit of '76

In 1976 a wave of patriotism and nostalgia swept the nation as we celebrated America's Bicentennial. Everybody got in on the celebration...Disneyland, DisneyWorld, commercial products, the '76 Olympics, the Superbowl, Major League Baseball...even Schoolhouse Rock!

https://youtu.be/gdZYyY7g8g4

I was 7 and my little sister Stephie was 3. I wanted to be a gymnast and do flips on the balance beam like Nadia Comaneci in the summer olympics; Steph wanted to do whatever I did!

0003185_the-1976-summer-olympics-nadia-comaneci

Daddy sold Coppertone suntan lotion that summer while he was in dental school. He set up and serviced Coppertone displays in stores. His territory went all the way to Panama Beach along the Gulf coast. Mom, Steph, and I would tag along and hang out in the hotel pools while Dad worked. My Aunt Janie mailed us matching string bikinis to wear.

img_1929-1

Steph and I were the belles of the pool! We swam in our floaties and ate chips and ice cream sandwiches from the concession stand,  while mom worked on her Coppertone tan. Paul McCartney and Wings sang “Silly Love Songs” hourly on the radio. I knew every word! Everybody thought Steph was the Coppertone Girl!

Those happy memories inspired my  Spirit of '76 art journal layout.

JFF Spirit of 76 Art Journal 030E DTlogo

I made a video of the process with some fun songs from 1976!

https://youtu.be/kaIepLIh_b8

I used stamps from JFF Rubber Stamps. The stamptangle hot air balloons remind me of some of the groovy designs from the 70's!

[caption id="attachment_12592" align="alignnone" width="5472"]013E DTlogo JFF Steam punk balloon, flower balloon and bicycle.[/caption]

I designed the quote in Photoshop Elements and printed on Strathmore Colored Pencil paper; I like the texture of it. The font is Wicked Seventies and was perfect with my theme!

Doing the Oxide Lift!

No, it's not a new dance move! My crafty friend Julie at Cape Cod Scrapper shared a pretty spring card featuring the oxide lift technique.

03182bdaffodils2boxide2blift2btechnique2bcard2b3

She got the idea from this Simon Says Stamp video by Gina K and after watching it I had to try it too.

https://youtu.be/NwIzqVV9E9U

It just so happens that the new monthly challenge at Just For Fun Rubber Stamps starts today and the theme is Spring Flowers. Perfect for this technique!

29340115_10214076376376617_2448591946952484958_n

I used the JFF Rubber Stamp image American Beauties to create my version of the oxide lift. A little Worn Lipstick, Shabby Shutters and Broken China Distress Oxide inks paired with Derwent colored pencils and voila! I also added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle and Club Scrap® Earth ink to frame my image.

Meow at the Moon!

I asked Chris for suggestions for my post title. He liked Howl at the Moon, but cats don't howl.  Or do they? We've never had a cat, so I don't know. My neighbor's cat sounds like it is howling at 3 am...right under my bedroom window. I wonder sometimes if my dog is deaf, but he hears me when I open the backdoor to feed him or call him to go for a walk. He's not doing his job! Anyway, Meow at the Moon is what evolved. It doesn't really sound that scary, but don't underestimate the Tiny Black Kat!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzxFjfB8Dfk]

My brother gave this book to Chris for Christmas many years ago. I read it first and "The Price" was exceptionally good! I probably shouldn't have read that story before bed though. Hmmm, maybe that howling at 3 am should worry me a little...

I'm up on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog today with a spooky Halloween scene!

JFFRS October 2017 007E

I didn't do anything fancy here, just some stamping and ink blending. I created this scene using three stamps - the Tiny Black KatHaunted Moon Tree, and Bats and a little help from my new Tim Holtz Stamp Platform! Sometimes the silhouette stamps need to be stamped twice to get a good solid print. I used Distress Oxide in black soot to stamp the silhouette images and regular Distress Inks for the background and the moon. The Tim Holtz mini ink blender was the perfect fit for the moon! The BOO letters were stamped with some tiny alphabet stamps from my stash.
The October Card Challenge is going on now!

You have until Tuesday, October 31st at 9:00 PM (EST)to enter. Make something spooktacular for a chance to win a gift certificate from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps!

Man in the Moon

Monday was the Great American Eclipse 2017 and we were "eclipsing" so hard!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BYEO_0XA3VY/?taken-by=wendy_c_b

My crazy husband is the videographer. I wish I had money for every time someone asks me, "How can you live with this guy?!" I just shake my head and say that he makes our lives interesting!

I made an art journal layout to commemorate the day. Technically, I made it for the Club Scrap Artist Team Pinterest Challenge blog hop, but the idea came to me after the eclipse! Inspired by Pinterest’s newest feature, “Tried it”, the Artist Team challenge this month is to visit the Club Scrap Pinterest account, choose a Pin with a technique or tutorial that inspires us, then make pages, cards or other projects inspired by that Pin. Lisa was my muse with this pin of her underwater background!

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/167970261085464864/

I turned the underwater background into a galaxy!

Club Scrap Nice To See You  and Destinations stencils (no longer available). Sunglasses elements from the Club Scrap Tahiti digital kit. Just for Fun Rubber Stamps Man in the Moon stamp image. Club Scrap black shimmer cardstock.[/caption]

We weren't in the path of totality during the eclipse, but the sky looked smoky like when there is a controlled burn in Kisatchie Forest...EERIE!

[caption id="attachment_9705" align="alignnone" width="2097"]IMG_7429E2 YES! I KNOW I stamped the wrong date! (Rolling my eyes...)[/caption]

The dark side of the moon passed between us and the sun!

[caption id="attachment_9706" align="alignnone" width="2976"]IMG_7430E Club Scrap Solstice stamp image (no longer available) behind the "man in the moon". Yellow and Xmas Red Stickles for a little moon sparkle![/caption]

I even made a video of my art journal process. Whew! The eclipse wiped me out!

You next stop on the hop is Karen at the Club Scrap blog where you'll find the full list of artist team bloggers. Lots of "Pinspiration" on this hop!

World of Wizards and Witches

I'm definitely Zelda.

Dave Whamond witch cartoon

I follow the rules when I drive (and bike!) and it makes me insane when other people don't. Am I crazy? Probably. I get really crazy when drivers don't watch out for bike riders. I'm always on guard. Sigh...that's why I wear a full cranium cycling helmet that my kids say makes me look special and I wear the flashiest/brightest colored shirts I can find.

63116_10151198046048789_31184793_n

So, I broke down and bought a new bike last week...

pr3e3362_mlg

I test drove a few bikes before "she" chose me like an Olivander's wand!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5whe9XtdQgw]

That blue-green is one of my favorite colors and the fit was perfect! Now to give her a name...I kept my old bike, Esmeralda. She is more green. This color is a little more blue...I kinda like Bonnie Blue from Gone with the Wind. I like the way it sounds and you can say it fast too! Bonnie Bluuuuueee!

Today starts the new weekly challenge at Cupcake Inspirations and the theme is the World of Wizards and Witches!

CIC 419 World of Wizards and Witches

Frantic Stamper is our sponsor this week and they are GENEROUSLY offering a $25 gift certificate, to our randomly chosen winner, to shop in their online store!

FranticStamperInc

I had fun designing this spooky Halloween scene. The supplies used are listed in the captions below and convenient links are at the end of the post. I used some Strathmore Toned Tan medium surface sketch paper to create my background on.  I really like the "tooth" of this paper, it really works well with colored pencils. They blend so easily on paper that is a little more textured and I think the colors are brighter than on smooth paper. I had to use my new Tim Holtz stamping platform to line up the stamp images and repeat stamping on the solid stamps. It worked like a dream! Look at the great coverage the Distress Oxide have when stamping on top of the other images!IMG_7411E

JFF Rubber Stamps Flying Witch, Harvest Moon, Bats, and Collaged Row Houses. Club Scrap® cardstock.  Strathmore Toned Tan medium surface sketch paper.  Derwent colored pencils and Distress Oxide inks.

I used the the tiniest pop-up tab from Frantic Stamper's Pop Up Card Bases Precision Dies set for the inside of my card.
