Great advice and I try to do this every day. I'm doing what I love and that makes me happy! Today I'm sharing an art journal layout with one of my favorite quotes.

Lavender Lemonade

What do you do when life hands you lemons? You make lavender lemonade!

JFF May Challenge Lavender Lemonande 003e

I had lavender on the brain after getting my new Club Scrap® Lavender Fields kit. Purple is one of my favorite colors...I even painted my bedroom lavender when I was in high school! I love perusing Pinterest for artwork ideas and I found this lavender lemonade photo as inspiration for my card.

1-1-700x1045

The  JFF Rubber Stamps monthly challenge for May is to use more than one stamp, so I dug through my stash of JFF stamps to find these versatile little gems! (Check the supplies list at the end of this post for direct links to products.)

[gallery ids="12496,12497,12498" type="columns"]

I stamped the canning jar in Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. The peppermint "straw" is colored with Milled Lavender Distress Ink as well as the inside of the jar. I used Prismacolor colored pencils to color and shade the citrus slices and blended with gamsol and a paper stump. The straw and lemon slices were fussy cut and adhered to appear as if they are inside the jar. I framed the card with Concord Grape Distress ink  and I added some ink splatters with it too for interest.

I like creating my own quotes for my projects and will either create them in Photoshop Elements and print them, or I will stamp them using one of my favorite font stamps.

[caption id="attachment_12499" align="aligncenter" width="350"]1_339762_th Concord and 9th Sophistocated Script clear font stamps.[/caption]

This script set takes a little practice, but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You can always touch up with a matching ink pen if needed! *wink*

JFF May Challenge Lavender Lemonande 008E

While getting "pinspired", I found the following recipe for Lavender Lemonade. It sounds so summery and refreshing! I'm definitely going to make this to sip on while relaxing by the pool.

If you're feeling creative, dig through your stamp stash and make something to share with us on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog. You don't have to use a JFF Stamp to be considered for the gift certificate, but if you DO use a JFF Stamp you will receive a second entry into the drawing doubling your chance to win. Click HERE to link up your project for a chance to shop at JFF Stamps! I'll look for you in the gallery!

Shine a Little Love

I started off Mother's Day weekend with an hour and a half power yoga class taught by my oldest son Christopher. This kid is a BEAST!

[wpvideo jioJuxs6]

My legs are still sore this morning. He's a taskmaster, but he's whipping his parents into shape and we are loving it!

My husband started beekeeping this spring and it has become a family affair. Saturday afternoon, Chris and Christopher packed up to remove a bee swarm from a second story deck. I tagged along to take pictures. This swarm had been there about two weeks, but they had settled in!

Look at that perfect honeycomb! The queen was playing hard to get. She was hiding in the rafters near where the hammer is hanging in the photo.

Christopher says he has a new appreciation for anyone who works standing on a ladder and looking up all day!

Two hours and quite a few stings later, they finally got the queen. Once they moved her to the temporary hive, the rest of the bees followed. So fascinating!

They were covered in sweat and nectar but those are some happy faces. Mission accomplished!

I had a pretty lazy Mother's Day on Sunday. My youngest son Jake made brunch...french toast made with fresh bread from our restaurant topped with homemade blueberry sauce. It was delicious!

Later, I visited at my mom's and swam with the kids, while my guys cooked a fantastic meal of homemade hamburgers, tater tots and egg rolls. It was a Mother's Day fit for a queen. That's what I call shining a little love on my life!

I made time to get my hands dirty in my craft room too, because today starts the new Cupcake Inspirations color challenge!

Our sponsor for this challenge is STAMPlorations and they are offering a $20 gift certificate to our randomly chosen winner!

stamplorations_preview

I made a 6x6 art journal page using stamps and card stock from Club Scrap® 's Cherry Blossom, Color Me Happy and Steamworks kits.

CIC 446 Pastels 013E

The lantern images were stamped in Club Scrap® sandstone ink for "no line coloring" with Prisma colored pencils and gamsol blending. To give them a glow, I rubbed some Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink on the center of each lantern . I used a gold gel pen for details and some diamond Stickles for sparkle.

Be sure to check out today's Cupcake Inspirations post featuring lots of inspiration from some of the STAMPlorations team as well as the Design Sweeties. Link up your creation for a chance to win!

Be You, the World Will Adjust!

I'm not a trendsetter, I just like what I like. Dyan Reaveley's stamp quotes speak to me, especially this one.

dyan reaveley stampsE

I made this card panel for the new Cupcake Inspirations challenge. I used Newton's Nook Beautiful Bones stamp set and created some masks that I fussy cut from Post it tape. I colored and shaded the images with Prisma colored pencils to create dimension and used Gamsol and a paper stump for blending.

May 2018 DT photos 002E

Masking is one of those basic stamping techniques that will make you feel like an artist. I love the illusion of layered paper!
