Queen of Hearts

I am the mother of two fine sons and a pretty awesome husband.

We raised them to be good men. They are kind, loving, secure and confident, but not arrogant. They treat everyone with respect until they are given a reason not to! They are both men of integrity and they make their parents proud every day.

I have to admit that I am a spoiled wife and mother. The men in my family love to cook and I love to eat. Win! Win! I don't mind the clean up after either. This is my youngest son's creation for our family's restaurant...King Cake Cheesecake! It is our homemade cheesecake with a cinnamon roll crust drizzled in a glaze icing and dusted with colored sugar. Oh my YUM!

One of the things that I admire about all three of these crazy Bellino's is their adventurous spirit. This is their new venture...learning to fly!

They inspire me to come out of my shell and experience new things, but my hair is turning gray FAST! 😅

Today's post is part of the Southern Girls February 2019 Challenge "Girl Power".

Oddball Art is one of our sponsors for this challenge and I found the perfect image for my project. I chose the Queen for the Day Image No. 326, the foul-tempered monarch who is quick to give death sentences at the slightest offense and screeches "Off with their heads!" She is the polar opposite of me, however, I channel her now and then to keep my thrill seekers in line!

Oddball Art Queen for the Day Image layered on a background created using the Club Scrap Cobblestone stencil and card stock. Detailed supplies list at the end of this post.

I resized the digital images in Photoshop Elements, printed on Crafter's Companion Spectrum Noir Specialty paper and trimmed using my Silhouette Cameo. The images were colored with a combination of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers, Prismacolor pencils and Dylusions paint pens. I added a little sparkle with Yellow and Diamond colored Stickles. The background was created using Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink layered with the Club Scrap Cobblestone stencil and Ground Espresso Distress Oxide ink applied with a sponge dauber.

That's One Sharp Set of Cards!

A few years ago I bought a bunch of indoor cacti and succulents for my home and office window sills. I have quite a collection now and they are so much fun to grow and admire. The window sill in my operatory at work is full and they are popular with my patients, especially the kids! It cracks me up when they come in my room and make a beeline for the window exclaiming, "Look at the cacti!" Kudos to the science teachers in Rapides parish because I didn't know that word when I was in elementary school! Little boys will even leave their mark and make mini cairns on top of the cacti with the colored stones in the pots. God forbid if I move them, because those little boogers expect them to still be there when they come back to see me for their 6 month dental check up! 🤣

Today's post is part of the Southern Girls January 2019 Challenge, Love is in the Air! I created a set of shutter cards using instructions from the Club Scrap Mumbai card kit and the Cacti Digital Stamp set from Lia Stampz.

You can view the video of my process below or on my youtube channel!

I just love the bold bright colors of the Mumbai kit! I used card stock and ribbon from the kit and colored the cacti images with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. I added some Stickles Glitter Glue for sparkle. (You can find the full supplies list at the end of this post.)

♫ Baby it's Cold Outside! ♫

https://youtu.be/gwrWH8hMlew

For the record, I'm not inviting any debates analyzing the lyrics and meaning of this song. It's a fun song to sing with my husband while I play the ukelele, I love this Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel version from Elf, and the phrase pairs well with my card design. That is it. And of course, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear! Merry Christmas!

All Dressed Up Winter Must Haves digital elements. Club Scrap card stock and ribbon from the new Alpine page kit and blank hybrid tag from the Alpine digital hybrid kit. Tag text designed in Photoshop Elements using the Callove font.

The last challenge of 2018 is up on the Southern Girls blog and we want you to use GLITTER! There's plenty of glitter to go around during the Christmas holidays, I get a little on me everywhere I go!

Our sponsors this week are All Dressed Up and Altenew

Get your bling on and link up your project HERE before December 31 for your chance to win a prize! I'll look for you in the gallery!

Autumnal Sunshine

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
On a winter's day

                                                               "California Dreamin' "

Mother Nature seems to have skipped over fall and sent us right into winter...it is 28 degrees in central Louisiana this morning! I haven't even had a chance to enjoy the cool, sunny fall days that I love. I will be taking advantage of the warmer temps next week!

There's a new challenge up on the Southern Girls blog and the theme is to use inks or sprays. The sponsors for this challenge are Neat and Tangled 252415gc-01-01and A Day for Daisies topbanner-adfd. Each company is generously offering gift certificates to our randomly chosen winners, so be sure to link up your inky creations for a chance to win!

I created an autumn themed art journal layout for my design team project. I found a quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne that sums up exactly how I feel on beautiful fall days!

SGChallenge November 2018 002E

I used three digital images from A Day for Daisies in my design, A Barrel of Blossoms,SGChallenge November 2018 002E2  Catching Leaves,SGChallenge November 2018 002E3 and Joy. I love the versatility of using digital images in my designs! I created my design in Photoshop Elements, printed on mixed media paper, and used Gansai Tambi watercolors, distress inks and Prismacolor pencils to color the images.

I can think of so many fun techniques with inks and sprays, but I chose simplicity for this project.  I added some background spatters with an OLD bottle of metallic copper Memories Mist. I haven't used it in years and it still works! The spray mechanism was clogged, so I just took it off and used it to flick droplets onto the background. I also added some water droplets to lift some of the distress ink from the background for added interest. All of the different mediums worked well together. I even blended the colored pencils with Gamsol and didn't get any lifting from the watercolors or distress inks. This is definitely a combination I'll use again! SGChallenge November 2018 002E4

Be sure to visit the Southern Girls blog for more inspiration from the Design Team and link up your "inked and sprayed" creation for a chance to win one of our prizes or be one of the Southern Girls' top 5!

I'll look for you in the gallery! wendy-signature
