Rock of ❤

My best friend and my valentine... he plays both positions on this team. We got married 30 years ago, when we were both babies!

November 24, 1990

We've grown up together. We started out "playing house" and built our family.

My "valentine" has a raunchy sense of humor, doesn't mind offending people, likes to be the center of attention, loves us with every fiber of his being, is and has the most loyal friends in the world, you either love him or hate him, but he's mine. I am as in love with this big kid as the day I married him. I don't ever want him to change. He's my Rock of ❤!

Today's post is part of the Cupcake Inspirations Love/Valentine theme challenge! I love when my inspiration for a project causes a bloom of creativity! Chris was my muse, the challenge was my theme and I knew I wanted to use elements from the new Turquoise kit from Club Scrap - the bright reds and teals are stunning! (All supplies will be listed at the end of this post.)
I'm on a Perfect Pearls kick lately. I've been shopping in my stash of scrap crap...and my craft room is full of it! 😆 Seriously, I love this stuff. It makes me feel so artsy!

That's One Sharp Set of Cards!

A few years ago I bought a bunch of indoor cacti and succulents for my home and office window sills. I have quite a collection now and they are so much fun to grow and admire. The window sill in my operatory at work is full and they are popular with my patients, especially the kids! It cracks me up when they come in my room and make a beeline for the window exclaiming, "Look at the cacti!" Kudos to the science teachers in Rapides parish because I didn't know that word when I was in elementary school! Little boys will even leave their mark and make mini cairns on top of the cacti with the colored stones in the pots. God forbid if I move them, because those little boogers expect them to still be there when they come back to see me for their 6 month dental check up! 🤣

Today's post is part of the Southern Girls January 2019 Challenge, Love is in the Air! I created a set of shutter cards using instructions from the Club Scrap Mumbai card kit and the Cacti Digital Stamp set from Lia Stampz.

You can view the video of my process below or on my youtube channel!

https://youtu.be/H8N91HbDZho

I just love the bold bright colors of the Mumbai kit! I used card stock and ribbon from the kit and colored the cacti images with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers. I added some Stickles Glitter Glue for sparkle. (You can find the full supplies list at the end of this post.)

Check out what the rest of the Southern Girls have created for the challenge and link up your project for a chance to win a prize from Krafter's Kart or Lia Stampz!

Let's Talk Valentine's Day

My grandparents were very frugal people. They grew up during the depression and lived through WW2 and food rationing. They kept everything! Memaw even kept a book of ration tickets with her box of keepsakes. I think she kept every card we ever gave her and she would thoughtfully "re-gift" them to us on special occasions. On my parents' 25th wedding anniversary, she gave them the card they had given to her and Papaw on their 25th anniversary. Last weekend I cleaned my craft room and found a folder of treasures that belonged to my Memaw that I didn't know I had.

There are some sentimental things in here including her high school "newspaper" from 1944 and a newspaper clipping of her engagement announcement to Papaw in 1947!

She started writing a blog at 87 years old and posted her first blog post in September 2012. She even had a Facebook page. I was feeling a bit nostalgic, so I pulled up her blog and started reading some of her posts. Her writing is short, sweet and to the point...just like she was in real life!

I knew Memaw and Papaw's anniversary date was coming up, but I forgot the exact date. I just knew she would have posted something about it on her blog, and she did. I decided to incorporate her writing into a project, especially after I saw the Taylormadecards4u Passport to Love digital kit!

I found this picture of my grandparents from when they were first married to go with her story. They look so young. Memaw once said that the first time she saw my Papaw she thought he looked like a little boy who had just had a bath!

They always had roses growing in their yard and climbing roses on the front porch. Even after Papaw died, and she went to live with my aunt and uncle, Memaw had a rose garden. Now I know why.

"So with roses you get flowers every day. They adorn your garden and make beautiful bouquets for your table. It's like getting a gift every day and it's practical. "

Virginia Chapman, Ridges of Lee County blog, February 15, 2013

I'm so glad she left her thoughts for us to read! It's like getting a gift every day. I like that.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team has created over on the Taylormadecards4u blog and you can find the Passport to Love digital kit in Monica Taylor's Etsy store here.

P.S. We'll have another fun retro Valentine release on January 25!

Take a Hike!

I like to be different, but sometimes I'm different because I just didn't listen or read things all the way through! Story of my life! DRS Designs is our sponsor at Cupcake Inspirations this week and has generously allowed us to use some of their stamp and digital images. Well, I just glanced at the inspiration photo and saw the colors red, white and pink.

I leisurely scrolled through the images on the DRS Designs website (some cute stuff there by the way!) and found these that I wanted to use...

I received my images and THEN I noticed the challenge theme, LOVE. A moment of panic, then pfffftttt...I got this!

I guess I need to take a new profile pic. I've lost about 20 pounds since then! Maybe I'll wait until April 1, my one year mark. I feel a blog post coming on! My best friend Sheri and I decided it was time to whip ourselves into shape. We started out walking, then hiking, biking and yoga. It's always a work in progress, but I LOVE every minute of it. I can't wait til the weather is nice enough to get out there and start hiking and biking again!

I won't bore you with all the technical details of my digital page, but I will say that Linda Sattgast at Digital Scrapper has THE best tutorials (she is Adobe’s endorsed scrapbooking expert) . Her Learn Digital Scrapbooking class taught me everything I needed to know about Photoshop Elements. I'm not a pro, but sometimes I feel like one! *No, I am not affiliated with Digital Scapper, the classes are just seriously good!*

So, I didn't stop there, I made a digital card too!

I used Club Scrap® 's 02/18 Card Sketch for the background.
