Lakes Blog Hop!

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Lakes Blog Hop! I was inspired by two artists this month, +Kay Williamson and +Jennifer McGuire. After I saw Kay's card and Jennifer's video, I had my "Aha!" moment...

Kay's dangling fish embellishment on her card from the Club Scrap Blog post  The Basic Art of Coloring

Jennifer's video from her blog post...

I loved the dangling fish on Kay's card and wanted to have the fish be the floating embellishment on mine. The CS Lite kit doesn't come with stamps, so I had to improvise. CS provides a link for Idea Recipe Cards that are included with the kits, so I downloaded and printed the Borders and Backgrounds image sheet on the white cardstock that came with my kit. I also printed a reverse image so that I would have a front and back of the fish. I fussy cut them out and colored them with watercolor paints and Distress inks.

Sprayed the fish generously with homemade Perfect Pearls opal mist and dried with a heat tool.

Inked the edges with CS Earth ink for definition.

Cut the window with my Spellbinders die cut and Cuttlebug.

The finished card!
The picture doesn't do the card justice, the shine from the Perfect Pearls mists looks iridescent like fish scales!

Sentiment from the CS Gimme a  Ring kit. This stamp is my "go to" for birthday cards!

I am also a CS Digi member and made a layout using the LO Idea Recipe Card. My sister was out of town and we got my niece all to ourselves for the afternoon. Christopher was home for the weekend and Beau loves her "cuzzins"!

LO 1. I used the digital overlay included in the kit and changed the blending mode to overlay for the mint background. I made custom shadows for the pics and photo mattes and labels for the journaling.

LO 2. I changed the effects mode for the background overlay to bevel so that it looks like it was heat embossed.

Homestead Blog Hop!

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Homestead blog hop! This month I am *GASP* playing with paper...I haven't been a Club Scrap paper kit member in a looooong time. I couldn't stand it, I broke down and ordered the Club Scrap Lite kit along with my monthly digi kit. BUT, when it was time to get started on my blog hop project I was lost. I watched some of my saved craft videos on youtube.com and found this one...

Quick, easy and CUTE! Last weekend we went to Bayou Chicot for the day (we had a family photo shoot), so I had new pictures to scrap. I wrote a blog post about it last week titled "Spiders and Gators and Boys...Oh My!" and I pulled from that for my journaling.

Title designed in PSE12 and printed on Club Scrap card stock. Font is Essays 1743.

I used papers from my Homestead Lite kit and ribbon and embellishments from my stash. My new coffee table book!

Spiders and Gators and Boys...Oh my!

(Any errors, blame the typist! I am NOT an outdoorswoman or a botanist. I do, however, live with 3 men who are outdoorsmen. I should NEVER go in the woods without a guide!)

Yesterday was a glorious early fall day here in Louisiana. I was missing my oldest who lives in Lafayette...

We decided to do something to enjoy the beautiful weather and met half-way at Bayou Chicot state park.

Chris, Jake and I started out on the hiking trail, but the mosquitoes were attacking with a vengeance!

FYI, the Bayou Chicot park map from the check in station sucks!

It was sooooo pretty though...

Elderberry bushes (yes, Jake HAD to taste them!)

A beautiful green spider with and orange design on his belly.

While we waited for Christopher, we spread out on a carpet of moss and discussed life. I wanted to lay down and take a nap, but if I had I would have been done for the day!

When Christopher and Lindsey showed up, we drove to the pier and walked out to check out the lake. Christopher asked Jake to go back to his truck to get some drinks out of the ice chest. He had the brilliant idea to toss his keys to Jake on the narrow pier. We all yelled, "NO!" and the keys arced up and over the side and into Bayou Chicot. Christopher stipped down to his boxers and jumped in. Three dives down in 8 feet of murky water, he came up with them in his hand. In less than 10 minutes he lost his keys in the lake and found them! Jake told him he needed to buy a lottery ticket on the way home!

As the afternoon wore on, we were entertained by a huge spider spinning his web. It spread across the lake from a cypress tree branch to the railing of the pier.

And the GATOR!

I wanted to take some family pics of us (since it is soooo hard to get us all together!) before the sun went down. I brought my tripod and set it up and we had fun!

Jake and Lindsey posing while I got my settings right. RUDE!

I jumped in with a second to spare!

I love these guys!

I wish I could bottle days like this...I love my family.
