Showering Baby Gus!

I am the oldest of five.

Chapman Family 1989

My youngest brother was born my senior year of high school...SAME parents! He arrived just as I was leaving for college. It is ironic that he and his wife will be having their first baby, just as my youngest is graduating from high school and leaving for LSU!

[caption id="attachment_1307" align="alignnone" width="382"]Jake senior portrait proofs 1 That's MY baby![/caption]

Family and friends hosted a shower for baby Gus a few weeks ago. We have a big family when we all get together, Baby Gus will make grandbaby #10 for my parents!

[caption id="attachment_1299" align="alignnone" width="1296"]The CREW! 4 of the 9 grandkids and two cousins![/caption]

If he is half as cute as these baby pictures of his mommy and daddy, he'll be one handsome little booger!

So here's to new beginnings! A new baby, new graduates (my brother is graduating from college!) and a new chapter in all of our lives!For-Baby-Gus-LO1For-Baby-Gus-LO2

01-2016 Technique Challenge...Origami!

I loved paper folding when I was a kid. Remember these?

comecoco

This month's Club Scrap Technique Challenge is to use origami elements on your scrapbooking or projects. I googled "easy origami tutorials" and this came up in the search results...Oh yeah, my kind of easy!

https://youtu.be/F-hoZJYxnU8

I found some Decopatch paper that was just right for folding and this is what I ended up with.

True Love...

I was going to clean up my craft room and got distracted after I found a basket of Cricut die cuts. Creativity struck ( or was it avoidance of the huge pile of laundry I need to fold?!) and this card was born! Now I’m in a Valentine card making mood. My craft room will have to wait!

The card was posted in the Club Scrap 01/16 Card Sketch Challenge. All card stock is from Club Scrap. Stamp image from the Club Scrap Love Inkorporated 2011 kit.

Keep it Tight!

Football season is over and on to the next adventure...POWERLIFTING!

So proud of this kid and all of his teammates, they swept the meet! The ASH Powerlifting Team has a winning reputation and placed first in Nationals last year. Looking forward to a great senior season!

Of course I had to document this event with a scrapbook layout or two, proud mom that I am...

These pages are made using elements from Club Scrap's Dashing digital kit from 2011 and the Surefire Strategy ALSB Formula from Club Scrap's Idea Deck Vol.2 10♥ card.

Here's to a winning season and an awesome group of athletes. It's a GREAT day to be a TROJAN!

Lakes Blog Hop!

Welcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Lakes Blog Hop! I was inspired by two artists this month, +Kay Williamson and +Jennifer McGuire. After I saw Kay's card and Jennifer's video, I had my "Aha!" moment...

Kay's dangling fish embellishment on her card from the Club Scrap Blog post  The Basic Art of Coloring

Jennifer's video from her blog post...

I loved the dangling fish on Kay's card and wanted to have the fish be the floating embellishment on mine. The CS Lite kit doesn't come with stamps, so I had to improvise. CS provides a link for Idea Recipe Cards that are included with the kits, so I downloaded and printed the Borders and Backgrounds image sheet on the white cardstock that came with my kit. I also printed a reverse image so that I would have a front and back of the fish. I fussy cut them out and colored them with watercolor paints and Distress inks.

Sprayed the fish generously with homemade Perfect Pearls opal mist and dried with a heat tool.

Inked the edges with CS Earth ink for definition.

Cut the window with my Spellbinders die cut and Cuttlebug.

The finished card!
The picture doesn't do the card justice, the shine from the Perfect Pearls mists looks iridescent like fish scales!

Sentiment from the CS Gimme a  Ring kit. This stamp is my "go to" for birthday cards!

I am also a CS Digi member and made a layout using the LO Idea Recipe Card. My sister was out of town and we got my niece all to ourselves for the afternoon. Christopher was home for the weekend and Beau loves her "cuzzins"!

LO 1. I used the digital overlay included in the kit and changed the blending mode to overlay for the mint background. I made custom shadows for the pics and photo mattes and labels for the journaling.

LO 2. I changed the effects mode for the background overlay to bevel so that it looks like it was heat embossed.

Your next stop is Karen at the Club Scrap Blog. Thanks for hopping by!

Sunday Lunch

When I was a kid, we always sat at the table together to eat dinner. Especially on Sundays. It was a time for everybody to catch up. Dinner conversation was how we communicated. We were all so busy with afterschool activities, school, social calendars…Mom usually made dinner and my sister and I were in charge of clean up. The younger kids had to clear the table, sweep, take out the garbage, etc. Everybody had a job and most of the time we worked together. We still have the same routine now that we are all grown! Funny how some things don’t change.

Shame on me that we rarely eat together in my own little family. Oh, we did when my kids were little, but now that everybody is older it gets harder to get everybody on the same schedule. However, whenever we are all home on Sundays we do. I really should get my wedding china out for these occasions because there it sits in my china cabinet, only used for holidays.

I cooked today. That is a rare occasion too! My husband is the king of the kitchen. He cooks because he loves it, I cook because I am hungry. You can probably taste the difference. BUT, I can cook pretty well when I want to (and I’m not hungry and grouchy). Today I made “Coonass Steaks and Gravy”. I took pictures to keep up with my photo a day challenge too! I EVEN made a digital scrapbook page…

Old sheets, clothes pins, and lots of imagination!

Yesterday was beautiful!  My nieces came to spend the weekend with my parents and I went to visit for breakfast. I even opened the sunroof for the drive around town! The girls wanted to make a fort in the front yard. Mom got out some old sheets, clothes pins, and my sister and dad hung them up in the magnolia tree. We had as much fun as they did!

The three photo layout is from +Tiare Smith  (From Desk to Done post) at iclassygirl.com http://www.iclassygirl.com/a-little-ins ... -25-day-4/ .

Club Scrap June Hopes Blog Hop!

HopesBlogHop_Badge_2_zpsebe1df8fWelcome to my stop on the Club Scrap Hopes Blog Hop! If you started on the Club Scrap Creates Blog, you are in the right place. If not, keep in mind that you can access the whole list of participants from there at any time.
My Dad just had his 62nd birthday and took my boys to Omaha for the College World Series. Of course that was “scrapworthy”! My sister took most of the birthday pictures with her iphone using  Instagram . My sisters and some of my closest friends introduced me to the Instagram and Hipstamatic apps for the iphone. The apps have a bunch of cool filters and effects for creating a cross-processed, textured look to your photos, with an added online sharing component. The photos print in cute little 4*4 squares, perfect for small photo albums.  I love playing with the filters!  I’m a digi ALSB scrapper, so I got out my Idea Decks for this project and I found three layouts that had square sized photo mattes for the Instagram photos. (The ALSB Digital Layouts tutorial by CS Jac opened my eyes to digi scrapping!)
Scan-6
I made templates out of the Idea Deck layouts so that I can use the layers as clipping masks for quick and easy layouts later.

A little somethin’ extra if you use PSE …. I really like the vintage look that some of the photography app filters give my photos and wanted to reproduce the look for some of my photos not on Instagram or Hipstamatic. I subscribe to Photoshop Elements Magazine and I highly recommend “The Instagram Effect” tutorial parts 1&2 to recreate two popular Instagram filters for your photos, Toaster and Earlybird.  The possibilities are endless! I  saved my filters as PSD files and can use them over and over.
