Life is like a bowl full of cherries.

Cherries make me think of my grandparents. My Papaw LOVED cherries...fresh cherries (especially Bing cherries), cherry pie, cherry ice cream, and chocolate covered cherries! They took me to Europe when I was 17 and Papaw would always recruit me to help find a street vendor who sold fresh cherries on our adventures. I was introduced to author Erma Bombeck by my Memaw who had a dog eared copy of " If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits?" next to her living room chair. Erma's articles were featured in most of the magazines Memaw subscribed to: Good Housekeeping  Reader's Digest, Family Circle, Redbook, McCall's, and even Teen magazine. (Most of them I read cover to cover because I was bored, since those were the days before unlimited cable TV and the internet!) I didn't appreciate her humor then, but almost 40 years later (25 years of marriage and two grown children) I think she was HILARIOUS!

The quote on this card makes me think of Memaw's kitchen. Like Erma, she was a 1950's housewife but she was pretty prolific with a pen and paper (or an Ipad)! She started writing a blog in her 80's. (Click here to read her blog). Her stories were short and sweet, but leave you with a clear vision of her memories as well as her meaning behind the post!

Always a Bridesmaid

I've been a bridesmaid twice. The first time was for my college roommate's first marriage, the second time was for my sister's first wedding (they divorced and then remarried). Maybe having me in the wedding isn't very lucky! ~chuckle~

I made this card for the Always a Bridesmaid - Use a Dress Form or a Dress challenge at Shopping Our Stash. I love this dress form image!

Ice cream, sun lotion and a "time out" chair with an umbrella!

I'm a Louisiana girl, born and raised. Though I did not grow up in south Louisiana, my family's Cajun roots are firmly established there. My grandfather grew up in St. Martinville and the rich, colorful Cajun culture is a short hop and jump away. When I was a little girl, my aunt gave me a book about the folk hero Clovis Crawfish. He was the creation of Louisiana legend Mary Alice Fontenot who was a journalist, kindergarten teacher and children's book author. The books are filled with French phrases and stories of life on the Louisiana bayou.



Clovis Crawfish is the inspiration for my art journal page. My brother Jed has lived in Lafayette, Louisiana since college and can mimic a Cajun accent like nobody's business! So, of course I asked him to come up with a Clovis Crawfish quote for me to use...

I wanted Clovis to have a girl friend, so I picked the name Cerise for this little crab since she's red!

inside every grown up is a kid that just wants to play

The Blondies came to spend the week. I got to spend the day with them on Monday, and we had a craft day since it was raining. They wanted me to take pictures so that I could post their art projects on my blog...

Summer Birthday!

♫ I love a rainy night...♫♪

Yesterday it was raining, the house was quiet and I was all by myself. I had good intentions, I was going to clean up my messy craft room. I can't create in a clean space, what was I thinking?! I start picking up and get distracted. Something interesting catches my attention and before I know it 30 minutes has gone by. So, I threw in the towel and immersed myself in paper, ink and some old movies!
