The Blondies came to spend the week. I got to spend the day with them on Monday, and we had a craft day since it was raining. They wanted me to take pictures so that I could post their art projects on my blog...

Millie first named her painting after Uncle Chris, then changed it to Jake the Snake!





Haylan fell in love with stencils. Of course she picked the LSU Tiger paw print!

Lots of creative fun with these two sweet girls! They are already planning the next visit. We'll have a little time to find at least 6 impossible things to believe before breakfast!

Summer Birthday!

♫ I love a rainy night...♫♪

Yesterday it was raining, the house was quiet and I was all by myself. I had good intentions, I was going to clean up my messy craft room. I can't create in a clean space, what was I thinking?! I start picking up and get distracted. Something interesting catches my attention and before I know it 30 minutes has gone by. So, I threw in the towel and immersed myself in paper, ink and some old movies!

Farewell to Baseball

I wasn't an athlete. I was the kid who was happy to sit the bench, watching and cheering everybody else on, eating Rainblo bubblegum and drinking my Pepsi from a wax paper cup. I just wanted the coupon for a free ice cream cone at Baskin Robbins if our team won the game! My boys are athletes. They both loved every sport they played. I'm lucky I have an athletic husband who played sports but allowed the boys to choose their own paths . He is a terrific dad to his sons who adore him, and so do I. I'm lucky to have a talented athlete for a Dad who didn't mind explaining every detail of the game to me while I watched my boys play. My job was to drive them to practice, make sure they had all their equipment, get them to the ballpark on time, wash dirty uniforms, and cheer from the bleachers. I rarely missed a game and if I did it was the end of the world to me. I loved to watch them play and I found that I loved to take pictures of them playing.

The emotions of sports are so raw sometimes. Happy, sad, ANGRY, total elation if a great play is made or a WIN...I wanted to capture that. I'm not a fan of portraits and fake smiles, I prefer candid shots that capture the real energy of a person. I love when I take a photo and it captures someone's internal light, their soul. I love this quote and keep it in my camera bag..."You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again. You can also look at a picture for a second and think of it all your life."~Joan Miro. THAT is what I strive to capture when I take pictures.

Most of the boys on the ASH Trojan 2016 baseball team have played together since they were in t-ball. Senior year is always bittersweet. You are sad because it's the end, but excited because it is also the beginning. I loved watching these boys play and I enjoyed every minute of watching them grow up. I'm a lucky mom. Which of these photographs is my favorite? The one you look at for a second and think of it all your life.

NAILED IT!

This week was Millie's "birthday week"! The girls came to town Saturday, and I took them to get their nails done and a trip to Michael's. They got mani/pedis "LSU" nails at Impressive Nails (purple and gold tiger stripes with gold tiger paws on their ring fingers). Millie said, "Impressive nails? Hmmmmm, that's impressive!"

I gave them each a $20 limit at Michael's, and we were in there FOREVER until I had to put a time limit on it too. Geez, they are worse than me! No arts and crafts supplies though, they were mesmerized by the "junk" toys. SMH...

Polished up, got their goodies, riding down the highway singing at the top of their lungs to Taylor Swift's "Teardrops on My Guitar"...NAILED IT!

Showering Baby Gus!

I am the oldest of five.



My youngest brother was born my senior year of high school...SAME parents! He arrived just as I was leaving for college. It is ironic that he and his wife will be having their first baby, just as my youngest is graduating from high school and leaving for LSU!

Family and friends hosted a shower for baby Gus a few weeks ago. We have a big family when we all get together, Baby Gus will make grandbaby #10 for my parents!

If he is half as cute as these baby pictures of his mommy and daddy, he'll be one handsome little booger!

Spring has Sprung!

I am my own worst critic. I usually end up changing things at the last minute. Hey, if you aren't happy with something, erase it, tear it up, burn it, paint it black...start over! I started with this...



I taped off a tree branch with washi tape and inked over it with distress inks. I spent a good hour painting the embossed cloissone egg stamps with perfect pearls and water. THEN I didn't like that the eggs blended into the background. So, I highlighted with a black pen. NOOOO!!! I should never do things when I am tired. I got mad, cut all the eggs out (and the tree branch) and slept on it. Fresh eyes always make better decisions.

I'm glad I didn't crumple everything up and throw it away! Whew! The soft colors remind me of the illustrations in Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit. I loved that book! (I still do!)

Blah, Blah, Blah...

I'm showing my age here...Did you have one of these lip pillows as a kid?



My grandmother made one for me when I was little. It graced the head of my bed with all the other stuffed animals until I left for college. I wonder where that thing is?!

What about this 1970's Avon lip gloss? I wanted this sooooooo bad!



(Shrug) I didn't get it, but I did get the chocolate chip cookie!



When I was grocery shopping recently, I saw this designer collection on the paper products aisle. The design with the lips drew me in. Of course I bought all the designs!  It was childhood brainwashing!
