Drawing a Blank? Use a Sketch!

Sometimes all it takes is a little spark of creativity and it's time to celebrate!

I had a stack of paper, a bin of stamps and I drew a blank. I took a Facebook break and this sketch challenge popped up in my feed.

It was just what I needed! I even stepped out of my comfort zone and handwrote the sentiment with a Perfect Medium pen and some white embossing powder.

I used the JFF Rubber Stamps small Stamptangle Star for my focal image, heat embossed with red glitter embossing powder and made some watercolor out of gold Perfect Pearls.

I finished off my card with a glittery brad, foil stars and card stock  from the Club Scrap July 2018 Firecracker kit.

The JFF Rubber Stamps monthly challenge is going on now and our theme for July is Red, White and Blue!

Make something festive and share it with us for a chance to win a gift certificate to shop in the JFF Rubber Stamps online store! I'll look for you at the Red, White and Blue linky party!

Sunshine, Blue Lights and a little Rock 'n Roll

Girls' weekend!  The sun was shining, the road was clear and we were heading to L'Auberge Du Lac Casino to see Daughtry!

D1

Wait! What?! *blue lights flashing*

Because she was soooooo polite, all she got was a seatbelt warning! Momadaboma!

IMG_5297

We had a blast! VIP floor tickets to the concert, our VIP bartender Felicia (hey girl!) and a fun group of party animals!

Of course I had to document the night with some digital layouts!

It was a much needed weekend away and I even got to see my sister!

I combined two challenge sketches for my layouts, the Club Scrap®  02/18 card sketch and the 2/18 Idea Deck challenges. I love how my creativity gets jump started with a sketch!

I'm up this week on the Just for Fun Rubber Stamps blog and I challenged myself to use the paper scraps and embellishments that were already out on my craft table along with Roni's card sketch. The Stamptangle Celestial Montage background stamp was right on top of my stash and happens to be a favorite!

Celestial Montage

JFF February Challenge 1 002E

I stamped and heat embossed the celestial montage on blue card stock, fussy cut the sun image and a few of the stars from the collage and added them to the card front I created from scraps. I embellished the sun with some red gems and Christmas Red Stickles and heat embossed the SUN word art as my sentiment. I haven't put a card together this fast in a long time, it must have been written in the stars! *BA DUM TSSS*

If you'd like to play along with the challenges (there are some gift certificates up for grabs!) here are the links:

Look Out World! She's 21!

21 is a HUGE milestone. It means you are an ADULT and no longer dependent on your parents, AND you can legally buy alcohol, drink it and go to the casino. Hmmmmm...turning 21 can get you in trouble!

This sweet little angel turned 21 yesterday!

She's kind, smart, funny and she's  a WONDERFUL big sister to ALL of her baby sisters (including the ones in her college sorority) and little brother!

But,  I will always think of her as this sweet Morgan...

One of these is on its way to her mailbox with a 21st birthday surprise inside!

I used this card sketch from the Club Scrap (CS) Idea Deck. It's so easy to follow, no waste and the cutting instructions are on the back

Meditating with my Gnomie!

I have a weird sense of humor. I laugh out loud at commercials. My mom said when I was little I would run from the next room, just to watch my favorites, and then go back to play. My youngest son will watch me, not the TV, waiting for me to start howling laughing on cue during my favorite parts.  This clip from Malcolm in the Middle is classic "Wendy humor". I laugh every time I watch it!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BunHeYkbjT0]

Of course this made me laugh.

cdc76d1b37d2e7d93b0fc23f4c47f7fa

And it inspired this...

I just #gotmykit (Club Scrap Garden Shed Lite) and had to make a card with my gnomie! He was from the Gnome for the Holidays kit and has inspired quite a few projects. This 2014 Holiday Blog Hop post was one of my favorites. It featured Papa and Mama Gnomie and a peek inside Santa's Workshop. I actually used Mama Gnomie to make a few alterations to help Papa Gnomie bend into lotus position. He's old and kinda stiff!

I like to use Faber Castell gelatos and Big Brush markers to color with, so I added a coat of gel medium to blend them better.

I picked complementary colors to go with the Garden Shed papers. I ♥ pistachio green!

I broke my Club Scrap glue pen, sniff... But, I found this cool little refill bottle for my  Club Scrap bookbinding glue!

A little shading with big brush markers...

This quote is from one of the cut apart sheets in the Garden Shed Lite kit. It was perfect for the theme of my card.

I used the King of ♦ card sketch  from the ALCM Idea Deck Vol. 1 to make the card base. These card sketches are awesome, no paper waste because the cutting instructions are on the back!

I added some shading with gelatos around Papa Gnome so he would look like he's levitating! He's kinda serious about garden meditation.

He needed a little sparkle in his beard, so I gave him some stickles for bling.

(Meditation chime bell)

Keep Calm

and

Meditate with your gnomies!

Namaste!

The Adventures of Supergirl and Spiderman!

We took a Sunday road trip to Lafayette to see the "Chapman Blondies". We had a great time watching soccer and eating red beans and rice and catfish for lunch! I even got my boob honked by a three year old. Good times!

One of the perks of having grown kids is that I get to be the fun aunt and take pictures. I love my nieces and nephews. Haylan was so excited that her big cousins and Uncle Chris came to watch her play! She's not a show off, she's really that good!

[caption id="attachment_2774" align="alignnone" width="3600"]cajun-rage Club Scrap Fire and Ice digital kit, Homemade Apple font, sagittarius sign and soccer ball from my stash. Sketch from the Club Scrap Idea Deck Vol. 2 King of ♦ card (see end of post). [/caption]

Little brother likes to be entertained too and doesn't take NO for an answer. As long as you do what he says, life is good!

[caption id="attachment_2775" align="alignnone" width="3600"]spiderman Spider web and Chinese symbols from my stash.[/caption]

Millie was too busy running around to be in the pictures this time. She's kinda sassy!

It was a fun, chaotic, rainy day=HAPPINESS. I ♥ my people.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Inchies!

I hate shopping. My mom knows this and would set me up in the dressing room and bring outfits for me to try on. Her famous saying when I would look at something and turn my nose up was, "You can't tell what that looks like on the hanger! Try it on before you say no!" She was usually right.

Instead of saying "no" to the dress, I said "no" to the sketch. Honestly, I would have skipped right over this card sketch if it hadn't been the challenge card for the Club Scrap July Idea Deck Challenge.

Too many little pieces, and a lot of cutting and gluing!

Well, guess what?

[caption width="3264" id="attachment_2080" align="alignnone"] Club Scrap cardstock. Cricut Sentimentals cartridge for the word art. [/caption]
They turned out pretty darn cute! I even cranked up my Cricut to cut out the sentiments.

I used three coordinating patterned papers, so I didn't have to do anything but cut, fold and glue.

I'm glad I didn't leave that card hanging on the rack!
