Where The Wild Things Are!

18619946_10211303004065752_2397076205119105128_n

About a month ago, I wrote this post Yes, I Ride Like a Girl!  about the "Adventures of Wendy and Sheri". It's been 8 weeks and we're still riding and hiking! We've been documenting our rides and our "Monday Fun Days" with photos and videos so that I could put them in albums for each of us. We're making history and it needs to be remembered!

We've had a blast while getting fit, we've biked, hiked, and gotten a lot of fresh air. AND we've each had an accident...so I'd say we're seasoned riders!

I took that fall like a champ! Though it took almost three weeks for the bruises to heal...

Bayou Chicot's trails were a little more advanced than we were ready for! The running joke of the day was "Siri's" mispronunciations of the French/Indian names on the GPS. Siri called Bayou Chicot  "Bye-o Ki-cot"! So funny to these Louisiana girls!

Sheri is a lot more adventurous than I am. She's a bit of a daredevil at times. There's not a whole lot she won't try!

We're good riding buddies, we push each other and that keeps us going. We're getting stronger every week, and we're not tired of each other yet! (Sheri, are you laughing?!) We've come so far and I am so PROUD of us!

I knew when I #gotmykit that the Club Scrap®  Adirondacks kit was PERFECT for documenting our adventures!

I made an Accordion Hinge Album that was a Club Scrap project from the Homestead kit in 2014. Click here for the Club Scrap blog post with downloadable instructions and a video tutorial. Adirondack Blog Hop Projects 013E

Don't you love this decorative spine?

I used almost every sheet of paper in my Adirondacks kit!

There's so much room inside! There are 26 pages if you include the 4x6 photo mattes that I attached to the spines. Good thing, because I have a TON of photos that need to go in there!

I decorated the front of my album with card stock and stamp images from the Adirondacks kit and some Tim Holtz grunge paper die cuts from waaaaaaay back. I totally forgot that I had them! I distressed them with Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo distress inks. I found the Indian Head Nickel button and some little metal embellishments that looked like arrowheads in my stash. I used some of the waxed thread from the kit to put it all together.

I still had a few scraps left, so I made a card too. This kit is a great kit for masculine themed projects...like Father's Day! The hunters in my family will love this!

It's a slider card!

I used Lawn Fawn's slider dies and I usually use a nickel as a weight, but it was too big for the duck stamp image. I hated to waste the little deer head charms that came with the kit, but they were the perfect size and weight when I glued two of them together with Club Scrap bookbinding glue!

I still have plenty of tags left to add to my album and lots of pages to fill!

Beautiful Louisiana

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF4MuN6BAVw]

I was born and raised in Louisiana. Louisiana is my home. My family is here, my memories are here, my family's history is here. There is such a rich heritage and mix of cultures, French, Spanish, French-Canadian, American and African. We have the BEST food, music, customs and we know how to "pass a good time"!  I just love my cousin Emily's pen and ink drawing of Louisiana. It's a whimsical map featuring famous landmarks from around the state. She's so talented and I'm so glad I snagged a print for Mother's Day!

Emily's Whimsical Louisiana Map

When my son Jake was in junior high in 2011, his Louisiana history class was required to make a scrapbook of historical sites around Louisiana. They had to document Civil War battle sites, plantations, festivals, famous figures and builidings. We traveled all over the state taking pictures and visiting famous landmarks, festivals and museums. We worked hard on this year long project and really enjoyed putting it together. I won't bore you with photos of all 26 pages, but I am glad that we were able to document some of the famous monuments before they were removed!

I'm up on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog today and I'm showcasing the JFF Rubber Stamps Gray Heron at Waters Edge stamp image. My themed card needed a Louisiana heron, so I chose colors inspired by the John James Audubon print.

I wanted the image to be reversed, so I stamped the image on a piece of clear plastic and pressed my card stock on the wet ink to get the mirrored image.

I used Rich Cocoa Memento ink and the result was pretty good! I die cut the image with an oval Spellbinders die and colored with Gansai Tambi watercolors. I finished the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink and added some Diamond Stickles for a little sparkle.

I cut the sentiment with my Cricut using the Plantain Schoolbook and Billionaire fonts cartridges. I fussy cut the Louisiana state silhouette using a template I printed from a state map image.

I ran the die cuts through my neglected Xyron machine, dusted with glitter and burnished well. I love the sparkle it adds!
